Written scenario · Ethics, Collaboration
The wrong attachment
You and your close friend Sara are both applying for the only paid summer research position in your department.
The night before applications close, Sara asks you to proofread her cover letter. Looking over her application, you notice she has uploaded last year's reference letter, which is addressed to a different program. If she submits it as it is, her application will probably be weakened, and your own chances will improve.

The two questions
- 1What would you do?
- 2When you are competing with someone, what do you still owe them?
What raters look for
- Ethics
- Weighs competing duties honestly, protects people from harm, and stays accountable to rules and values.
- Collaboration
- Works toward a shared goal, shares credit and load, and repairs friction inside a team.
