Scene to read · Resilience, Motivation
Which list?
You take a weekly intermediate yoga class with your close friend and training partner, Sekou.
Sekou has just moved up to the advanced class and wants you to join him. You enjoy being one of the stronger students where you are. In the studio lobby after class, he raises it with your teacher, Sam, who runs both classes.
The scene
Sekou: Come up with me. You'll catch up by summer, I know it.
Sam: You'd be the weakest in that room for months. My teacher made me wait years.
Sekou: Different times, Sam. Struggling a little is how people get better.
Sam: Or how they quit. Both classes have a spot. Which list do I put you on?
The two questions
- 1Which class would you choose, and what would you say to Sekou and Sam?
- 2How do you decide whether you are ready for something harder, or just comfortable where you are?
What raters look for
- Resilience
- Recovers from setbacks, manages stress constructively, and learns from failure.
- Motivation
- Shows genuine, sustained drive and a clear reason for choices, including when work is unglamorous.
