Personal question · Self-awareness, Empathy
A story that changed my view
Sometimes something we read, watch or listen to shows a person in our own life in a new light. A story about strangers can expose an assumption we had been quietly making about a friend, classmate or relative, and can change how we treat them.
The two questions
- 1Describe a time a book, film, podcast or article made you realize you had misjudged someone you knew. What had you assumed about them, and why do you think you assumed it?
- 2Tell us about a time you acted differently toward someone after a realization like this. What did you change, how did they respond, and what did it teach you about how you form impressions?
What raters look for
- Self-awareness
- Recognizes own biases, limits and emotions, and seeks and uses feedback.
- Empathy
- Recognizes what others feel and need, and lets that shape the response without losing judgment.
