Scene to read · Self-awareness, Resilience
On our time
You are meeting two friends at the cinema and are known for running late.
Tonight you left work early and paid for a taxi to arrive exactly at the time you were given. In the busy cinema lobby you find Oscar and Arief relaxed, with the film not starting for another thirty minutes.
The scene
Oscar: Look who's on time! Well, on our time. The movie's actually at eight.
Arief: We've told you thirty minutes early for a year. Works every time.
Oscar: Don't look at us like that, people are staring. It was that or miss every opening.
Arief: Okay, we should've told you. Are you annoyed?
The two questions
- 1What would you say to Oscar and Arief?
- 2How should a person respond on learning that others have quietly been working around one of their habits?
What raters look for
- Self-awareness
- Recognizes own biases, limits and emotions, and seeks and uses feedback.
- Resilience
- Recovers from setbacks, manages stress constructively, and learns from failure.
