Scene to read · Ethics, Resilience
Word for word
You are one of two paid editors on an online podcast.
In the owner's home studio, you and your fellow editor Astrid, who is Deaf and lip-reads, have found that a long segment in tomorrow's episode matches another creator's video word for word. Arjun, the show's owner, wrote and recorded it. You two are credited for the script.
The scene
Astrid: Arjun, six minutes of this are word for word from someone else's video.
Arjun: It's a tribute. The sponsor's read is inside that segment and we publish tomorrow.
Astrid: Then credit her by name in the episode. It takes ten seconds.
Arjun: And admit it on air? If this comes out, the script credit says you two.
The two questions
- 1What would you do, and what would you say to Arjun?
- 2When, if ever, is it acceptable to stay quiet about something wrong in order to protect yourself?
What raters look for
- Ethics
- Weighs competing duties honestly, protects people from harm, and stays accountable to rules and values.
- Resilience
- Recovers from setbacks, manages stress constructively, and learns from failure.
