Scene to read · Ethics, Professionalism
The counts start Monday
You are the front-desk receptionist at a small physical therapy clinic, standing at the supply closet doorway with two colleagues.
An hour ago you saw the owner's adult son carry unlogged boxes of exercise bands and tape to his car. At the closet doorway, Camilo, the owner, offers you a better-paid coordinator job tracking supplies. Dalila, an aide who restocks the closet, notices the shelves and turns to you, since you work the front desk.
The scene
Camilo: The coordinator job's yours if you want it. You'd run counts.
Dalila: Shelves look thin, and the log's blank. Did you see anyone?
Camilo: My son took them for the senior center class. Paperwork's coming.
Dalila: If that's true, fine. But you're front desk. What did you see?
The two questions
- 1What would you say to Camilo and Dalila in this moment, and would you accept the job? Why?
- 2When, if ever, should a personal benefit you've been offered change whether you speak up about something you witnessed?
What raters look for
- Ethics
- Weighs competing duties honestly, protects people from harm, and stays accountable to rules and values.
- Professionalism
- Is reliable, respects boundaries and confidentiality, and holds a consistent standard under pressure.
