Scene to read · Ethics, Collaboration
Crop me out, please
You are the volunteer who manages the dragon boat team's social media and designs its recruitment poster.
On the boathouse deck after practice, you hold the poster file, due at the printer tomorrow morning. Crew member Efrain agreed to the group photo, then saw the design and asked to be cropped out. Eilidh, a veteran paddler, is also there. Removing him would delay printing and leave the team photo looking uneven.
The scene
Efrain: I agreed before seeing the design. Now I'd rather be cropped.
Eilidh: Cropping him leaves a gap. Printer deadline's tomorrow. We promised the club.
Efrain: I don't mean trouble. I don't want my face on lampposts.
Eilidh: Fair enough. We could reshoot next week. It's your call either way.
The two questions
- 1What would you do about the poster, and what would you say to Efrain and Eilidh?
- 2When should a person's changed preference outweigh a commitment a group has already made?
What raters look for
- Ethics
- Weighs competing duties honestly, protects people from harm, and stays accountable to rules and values.
- Collaboration
- Works toward a shared goal, shares credit and load, and repairs friction inside a team.
