She doesn't know why
You are a receptionist at the family services desk of a community health center.
You work at the family services desk of a community health center. Eri, a regular visitor, asks you to book her 24-year-old daughter, who has an intellectual disability, a consultation about permanent birth control. Eri is her daily caregiver and says she has thought about this for years. While Eri steps aside to fill out forms, her daughter quietly tells you she doesn't know why they're here. The file doesn't say whether Eri has any formal role in making her daughter's decisions, and Eri is waiting for a time slot.
The two questions
- 1What would you do, and why?
- 2Describe a time you had to make sure someone's own wishes were heard while another person was speaking for them. What did you do, and what did you learn?
