Dead weight
You are on a five-person quiz league team with a group of friends.
At a campus café, your friend Ghassan shows you and Giorgio a private message that your teammate Leo sent him late last night, after a loss, calling the rest of you "dead weight." Tonight the team picks its captain for the season, and Leo is the only candidate. Nobody has asked Leo what he meant. Ghassan wants to forward the message to the whole team before the vote.
The scene
Ghassan: Dead weight, he calls us, then asks for our votes. The team should see this.
Giorgio: Send it. We vote tonight. People should know who they're voting for.
Ghassan: He did say it only to me. Maybe it was a bad night.
Giorgio: And if he thinks it all season? You're quiet. What do you think?
The two questions
- 1What would you say to Ghassan and Giorgio?
- 2When does other people's stake in a decision outweigh someone's expectation that a private message stays private?
