Scene to read · Ethics, Professionalism
Any problems?
You are visiting your close friend Keisha at her apartment.
Keisha is selling her used laptop online to pay for a car repair. Its battery now lasts under an hour, as you found when you borrowed it; her listing does not mention that, though she priced it below similar ones. Wendy, the buyer, a student, is in the living room counting out cash.
The scene
Wendy: Three hundred, right? It looks great. Any problems I should know about?
Keisha: It's been a solid machine. I wrote all my reports on it.
Wendy: I got burned on my last one. You've used it too? Any trouble?
Keisha: It's been great, hasn't it? I just really need this sale today.
The two questions
- 1How would you answer Wendy, and what would you say to Keisha?
- 2Describe a time being honest with one person meant letting down someone close to you. What did you do?
What raters look for
- Ethics
- Weighs competing duties honestly, protects people from harm, and stays accountable to rules and values.
- Professionalism
- Is reliable, respects boundaries and confidentiality, and holds a consistent standard under pressure.
