Checked during the break
You are the captain of a pub quiz team and can decide how your team handles this.
In the back room of a pub after quiz night, scores aren't announced yet. Your teammates Cyprian, 58, and Dacian, 28, are with you. The written rules ban searching during a round but say nothing about breaks. Dacian looked up a definition between rounds, and the next round included that term.
The scene
Cyprian: Dacian, you checked that word between rounds, then it came up.
Dacian: We chatted; rules only ban round searches, so breaks seemed fine.
Cyprian: Other teams lacked that chance. Should we speak before scores appear?
Dacian: I think we won fairly. Captain, tell the host or not?
The two questions
- 1What would you do, and what would you say to Cyprian and Dacian?
- 2How do you decide when to speak up about a situation that is unclear rather than clearly wrong?
What raters look for
- Ethics
- Weighs competing duties honestly, protects people from harm, and stays accountable to rules and values.
- Resilience
- Recovers from setbacks, manages stress constructively, and learns from failure.
