Scene to read · Ethics, Collaboration

The photo has no date

You wait tables at a restaurant that pools tips weekly.

After closing, Haruka and Sione stop you in the back hallway beside this week's sealed tip envelopes. They have just shown you a photo, posted online, of Jo, a fellow server, at a lake. Jo called in sick during last night's rush, and you covered her tables.

The scene

Sione: We're asking the manager to drop Jo from this week's pool.

Haruka: The photo's not dated. Could be old. But she wasn't here, and we were.

Sione: You covered her whole section. It'd mean more coming from you.

Haruka: The manager leaves in ten minutes. Will you come with us?

The two questions

  1. 1What would you do, and what would you say to Haruka and Sione?
  2. 2How sure should you be of the facts before you support a decision that costs someone else?
