Put my name in
You are hiring a coordinator for your team at work.
After a pickup game, you sit on the courtside bench with two friends, Gustavo and Brooke. Gustavo is a close friend who once covered your rent when you were broke; he is also often late and has left two jobs in a year. He has seen your posting.
The scene
Gustavo: That coordinator job on your team. I want it. I'd be good at it.
Brooke: You were an hour late today, Gus.
Gustavo: For a pickup game. A paycheck is different.
Brooke: Nobody's ever bet on you. I think you're owed one real chance.
Gustavo: So will you put my name in?
The two questions
- 1What would you say to Gustavo, and what would you do about the job?
- 2Describe a time a friendship and a responsibility pulled you in different directions. What did you do?
What raters look for
- Professionalism
- Is reliable, respects boundaries and confidentiality, and holds a consistent standard under pressure.
- Ethics
- Weighs competing duties honestly, protects people from harm, and stays accountable to rules and values.
