Twenty minutes late
You are a volunteer chat moderator for a charity livestream.
You forgot to leave Iman, the next moderator, a note that tonight's giveaway had moved up an hour, so the stream started twenty minutes late while she caught up. Afterward you talk with Iman and Kathleen, the streamer, in Kathleen's studio corner.
The scene
Kathleen: Honestly, we still raised two thousand. It was twenty minutes. Let's laugh and move on.
Iman: I walked in blind with four hundred people waiting. It'll happen again.
Iman: Tell the whole group, and make a written handover log mandatory.
Kathleen: More paperwork for unpaid volunteers? They'll quit. It was your slip. Thoughts?
The two questions
- 1What would you say to Iman and Kathleen, and what would you do next?
- 2Describe a time a mistake of yours made things harder for someone else. How did you put it right?
What raters look for
- Professionalism
- Is reliable, respects boundaries and confidentiality, and holds a consistent standard under pressure.
- Problem solving
- Gathers facts before acting, considers options and consequences, and chooses a workable next step.
