Personal question · Professionalism, Empathy
Beyond the intended group
Something shared online for friends or classmates may reach family, colleagues or group leaders who interpret it differently. Think about an audience expansion you experienced or witnessed, and the challenge of addressing different readings while respecting anyone whose privacy or reputation was affected.
The two questions
- 1Tell us about a time something you shared online, or saw someone else share, reached an unexpected audience. What different interpretations arose, and how did you respond?
- 2Describe a time during that same incident when you had to consider competing expectations about what had been shared. What did you learn, and how would you handle those interpretations and reduce the chance of a similar problem now?
What raters look for
- Professionalism
- Is reliable, respects boundaries and confidentiality, and holds a consistent standard under pressure.
- Empathy
- Recognizes what others feel and need, and lets that shape the response without losing judgment.
