Scene to read · Professionalism, Communication
Can I quote you?
You help run a large online forum for fountain pen collectors.
Last week the volunteer team that runs it voted, over your objection, to wipe every post older than ten years, and agreed to announce the change with one voice. In a coworking lounge, Hemi, a tech blogger you know, stops at the table where you and Tamika, who backed the change, have your laptops open. People at nearby tables look up.
The scene
Hemi: I heard the vote wasn't unanimous. Can I quote you on why you disagreed?
Tamika: We agreed the team speaks together. Those old posts were a legal headache.
Hemi: Members are upset. They deserve to know someone argued for them.
Tamika: I can't stop you. Just remember who you work with tomorrow.
The two questions
- 1What would you say to Hemi and Tamika?
- 2Describe a time you disagreed with a decision your group had made. How did you handle it afterward?
What raters look for
- Professionalism
- Is reliable, respects boundaries and confidentiality, and holds a consistent standard under pressure.
- Communication
- Listens first, speaks clearly and respectfully, and adapts the message to the listener.
