Nothing proves it was me
You run a small remote tech support business.
Carlito, a client, has come to your office. All three laptops in his household were infected with malware the day after your technician, Jordan, connected to them remotely from his home computer. Nobody has yet examined where the infection came from.
The scene
Carlito: All three laptops went down the day after your remote session.
Jordan: My home computer was acting odd that week. But nothing proves it was me.
Carlito: Odd? And you connected anyway? I want this fixed and my money back.
Jordan: If we admit fault with no proof, we're paying for everything.
The two questions
- 1What would you tell Carlito, and what would you offer him?
- 2Describe a time you had to respond to a complaint before you knew all the facts. What did you do?
What raters look for
- Professionalism
- Is reliable, respects boundaries and confidentiality, and holds a consistent standard under pressure.
- Problem solving
- Gathers facts before acting, considers options and consequences, and chooses a workable next step.
