Scene to read · Professionalism, Ethics

Is it true?

You work the counter at a video game store during launch week.

Minutes ago your coworker Aditya told you he was the one who posted, from last week's staff-only meeting, the company's unannounced plan to close several stores. Now Frank, a regular, holds up that post from a big gaming chat server while other customers wait in line.

The scene

Frank: It says you're closing stores. I've got two hundred in preorders here. Is it true?

Aditya: We can't really comment on rumors, Frank. Right?

Frank: That's not a no. My nephew works at your mall location.

Aditya: Whoever posted it wanted people warned, that's all. Go on, you answer.

The two questions

  1. 1What would you tell Frank, and what would you do about what Aditya told you?
  2. 2Describe a time you knew something you were not free to share. How did you handle being asked about it?
