Scene to read · Resilience, Self-awareness
The clicker clip
You work in a small office and gave a presentation yesterday that went badly.
You lost your place twice and knocked the clicker off the table. Someone posted a clip in the office group chat, and it has a dozen laughing replies. In the office kitchen at lunch, with the door open to a busy hallway, Xiu has just replayed it for you when your manager, Reza, walks in.
The scene
Xiu: The flying clicker gets me every time. Honestly, we love you for it.
Reza: It's your face in there. Say the word and it comes down.
Xiu: Oh, come on, it's sweet. Everybody fumbles. Now the interns know it's survivable.
Reza: Could be. The whole hallway's listening, so no pressure. Up or down?
The two questions
- 1What would you say to Reza and Xiu, and why?
- 2When is laughing at yourself a strength, and when does it mean accepting something you should not?
What raters look for
- Resilience
- Recovers from setbacks, manages stress constructively, and learns from failure.
- Self-awareness
- Recognizes own biases, limits and emotions, and seeks and uses feedback.
