Contest or pack
You share an apartment with two roommates, Beverly and Lerato; all three of you are students with exams this month.
This morning the landlord gave you thirty days to move out for renovations. A tenant clinic told Beverly the notice may not be valid, but challenging it takes weeks and might fail. Tonight the notice sits on the living room table between them.
The scene
Beverly: The clinic says we could win. If we fold, he does this again.
Lerato: Or we lose and have ten days to find a place, during finals.
Beverly: I'm not giving up a home because pushing back is inconvenient.
Lerato: I found a place we can see tomorrow. You're the tiebreaker. Contest or pack?
The two questions
- 1What would you say to Beverly and Lerato?
- 2How do you decide when to keep pushing against something unfair and when to accept it and move on?
What raters look for
- Resilience
- Recovers from setbacks, manages stress constructively, and learns from failure.
- Collaboration
- Works toward a shared goal, shares credit and load, and repairs friction inside a team.
