Through the floor
You share an apartment with your roommate, Luis.
It is 10 p.m. on a weeknight, and you and Luis have friends over. Your downstairs neighbor, Mrs. Okafor, knocks on your door holding her baby.
What's said in the scene
Mrs. Okafor: This is the fourth night this week. The music, the footsteps. I have a two-month-old who won't sleep.
Luis: It's not even that late. We're allowed to have people over. We pay rent too.
Mrs. Okafor: (looking at you) I don't want to call the landlord. Can we work something out?
The two questions
- 1How would you respond to Mrs. Okafor, and to Luis?
- 2How do you respond when someone tells you that you are the problem?
What raters look for
- Communication
- Listens first, speaks clearly and respectfully, and adapts the message to the listener.
- Collaboration
- Works toward a shared goal, shares credit and load, and repairs friction inside a team.
