Written scenario · Resilience, Motivation
His money, his choice of course
You are about to start a course you spent two years saving for.
You saved for two years for a nine-month furniture restoration course that starts next month. An emergency car repair has just used up the fee. Your older cousin Matteo, who has helped you before and never asks for anything back, offers to pay for a course, but only the bookkeeping certificate he believes will get you steady work; he says he cannot watch his money go toward a hobby. The restoration course runs once a year, your deposit is not refundable, and Matteo will be hurt if you turn him down.
The two questions
- 1What would you do, and what would you say to Matteo?
- 2Describe a time a setback forced you to rethink a plan you cared about. What did you do?
What raters look for
- Resilience
- Recovers from setbacks, manages stress constructively, and learns from failure.
- Motivation
- Shows genuine, sustained drive and a clear reason for choices, including when work is unglamorous.
