Scene to read · Resilience, Communication

Under his window

You are a resident whose courtyard bench proposal was just voted down at the residents' meeting.

Residents have finished their meeting in the apartment courtyard, and volunteers are stacking chairs. Your bench plan lost by a few votes. Your neighbor Leonie, who backed it, and Leocadia, a retired resident who voted no, are beside you. You chair the proposals group, so you decide whether to bring it back.

The scene

Leonie: Bring it back next month with a smaller budget. Don't quit.

Leocadia: My objection wasn't the idea. It's right under my bedroom window.

Leonie: Leocadia, many people wanted somewhere to sit. Evenings here are quiet.

Leocadia: Quiet until people stay late. I'm not against you. You decide.

The two questions

  1. 1What would you decide about the bench proposal, and what would you say to Leonie and Leocadia?
  2. 2Tell us about a time you kept working on something after a setback, or chose to let it go. How did you decide?
