Scene to read · Resilience, Self-awareness
Do the voice
You are at a family barbecue on your parents' patio.
Your father, Danilo, is retelling, as he does at every gathering, how your toast at a cousin's wedding last summer fell apart when your voice cracked. You have not spoken in front of a group since, and you are due to say a few words at your grandmother's birthday next month. Your cousin Noam, the bride's brother, joins in while relatives listen from the porch.
The scene
Danilo: And then the squeak! Whole room went silent. Funniest toast we ever had.
Noam: I was right there. Do the voice! Come on, just once.
Danilo: Oh, don't make that face. You used to laugh at this one.
Noam: Grandma's listening from the porch. Do the voice!
The two questions
- 1How would you respond to Noam and your father?
- 2When is laughing along at your own mistake healthy, and when does it stop being so?
What raters look for
- Resilience
- Recovers from setbacks, manages stress constructively, and learns from failure.
- Self-awareness
