Three hundred dollars short

You are the volunteer who built the festival budget, standing in the tent with two committee members.

In the tent behind the stage of a neighborhood street festival, committee members Thibault, 55, and Torin, 25, review the numbers with you. You based the budget on last year's attendance, which turned out to be a one-off. Income is $300 short with one day left, and the performers' small stipends are the only payments not yet made.

The scene

Thibault: We're three hundred short; performers' stipends are our only flexible line.

Torin: They were promised that money. Cutting it breaks our word to them.

Thibault: Then ask tomorrow's crowd for donations and admit our estimate was wrong.

Torin: If donations fall short, we still owe them. What would you suggest?

The two questions

  1. 1What would you do, and why?
  2. 2Tell us about a time you made a mistake in your planning or work. How did you recover and what did you change afterward?

What raters look for

Resilience
Recovers from setbacks, manages stress constructively, and learns from failure.
Communication
