Scene to read · Resilience, Ethics

Not a loan

You ran a food stall that closed last week after a year.

The eight thousand dollars your close friend Daisuke invested in the stall is gone, and your new job barely covers your rent. Daisuke and his husband, Nnamdi, whom you know less well, have come to help you clear out, and stand with you by the half-lowered shutters.

The scene

Daisuke: It was an investment, not a loan. Forget it, really.

Nnamdi: It was also our savings. I'm not angry. I just want a plan.

Daisuke: You don't owe us a plan. You lost everything here too.

Nnamdi: Fifty a month would mean something. Or tell me honestly that it's never.

The two questions

  1. 1What would you say to Daisuke and Nnamdi?
  2. 2What do we owe the people who backed us when something we tried has failed?

What raters look for

Resilience
Recovers from setbacks, manages stress constructively, and learns from failure.
Ethics
