Written scenario · Resilience, Collaboration

The only loss in the room

You volunteered to run the craft stall at a hospital's fundraising fair.

You ordered too much stock and priced it low, and the stall lost 400 dollars. At the volunteers' meeting, Leonard, the experienced fundraising chair, reads out every stall's result in front of forty people. Yours is the only loss, and the room goes quiet. He moves on without comment, then asks who will run each stall at the winter fair. Two people glance at you. You could volunteer again, explain what went wrong, offer to cover the loss yourself, or say nothing and step back.

The two questions

  1. 1What would you do or say in the meeting, and afterward?
  2. 2How do you tell the difference between learning from a public failure and punishing yourself for it?

What raters look for

Resilience
Recovers from setbacks, manages stress constructively, and learns from failure.
Collaboration
Works toward a shared goal, shares credit and load, and repairs friction inside a team.
