Scene to read · Resilience, Empathy

One listener couldn't hear us

You are a volunteer who handles audio and listener replies for a community club's livestreams.

At a folding table backstage at a community hall, co-hosts Salma, 51, and Salvatore, 64, are packing up after a livestreamed talk. One listener reported unclear sound, but the local recording sounds fine and you couldn't reproduce the problem. You handle replies, and the next stream is scheduled for tomorrow.

The scene

Salma: Let's apologize publicly and promise better sound next time. People need reassurance.

Salvatore: We haven't found the problem yet. Let's ask for details before promising.

Salma: I just don't want our questions to sound like we doubt them.

Salvatore: Neither do I, but promising a fix could disappoint them again.

The two questions

  1. 1What would you write in reply to the listener, and what would you do before the next stream?
  2. 2How do you decide when to defend a public effort and when to accept criticism of it?

What raters look for

Resilience
Recovers from setbacks, manages stress constructively, and learns from failure.
Empathy
Recognizes what others feel and need, and lets that shape the response without losing judgment.
