Written scenario · Self-awareness, Resilience
Warm with the polite ones
You work at the front desk of a busy clinic.
During a hectic week you notice a pattern in yourself. You are warm and patient with visitors who are polite, and brisk with the ones who are anxious and demanding, who are often the people most in need of help. Being brisk keeps the line moving and your own stress down. This morning Da-eun, who has phoned three times about a form, is at the desk again, sharp and close to tears, asking why nobody will give her a straight answer. Six people are waiting behind her.
The two questions
- 1What would you do, and why?
- 2Describe a time you realized you were treating some people better than others without meaning to. What did you do about it?
What raters look for
- Self-awareness
- Recognizes own biases, limits and emotions, and seeks and uses feedback.
- Resilience
- Recovers from setbacks, manages stress constructively, and learns from failure.
