The four you have dinner with
You captain a Thursday-night futsal side for players over fifty and set the lineup.
Your side has won five in a row and plays a semifinal next week. On the bench after tonight's game, Nizhoni and Connor pack up beside you. Connor is one of the four players you have dinner with most weekends, and they are among the stronger players.
The scene
Nizhoni: I counted tonight. The four you have dinner with played almost every minute.
Connor: Because we're scoring. Five straight wins, and a semifinal next week.
Nizhoni: Maybe. Or you just know their game best. Pete and I sat thirty minutes.
Connor: Whatever you're doing works. You'd change it right before a semifinal?
The two questions
- 1What would you say to Nizhoni and Connor, and what would you change, if anything?
- 2How can someone check whether their own decisions are as fair as they feel?
What raters look for
- Self-awareness
- Recognizes own biases, limits and emotions, and seeks and uses feedback.
- Equity
- Notices unequal access or treatment and acts fairly, especially for people with less power.
