Scene to read · Self-awareness, Empathy
Captions take longer than promised
You are a volunteer who offered to caption the film club's recorded meetups and now decide how they get released.
At the back table of a community room after a monthly film-club video meetup, Rainer, 31, the co-organizer, and Raisa, 44, a member who is hard of hearing, discuss the recording with you off camera. Both know correcting names and overlapping voices takes you much longer than expected. Raisa relies on accurate captions; absent members are waiting for the recording, and you cannot sustain the current workload.
The scene
Rainer: Thursday's absentees keep asking. Could we post tonight and fix captions later?
Raisa: I can't follow those captions, especially when names and voices get mixed.
Rainer: Waiting also leaves people out, but I know you're already stretched thin.
Raisa: Could we share the cleanup so access doesn't depend on your evenings?
The two questions
- 1What release process would you recommend, and how would you explain the workload limits to Rainer and Raisa?
- 2Describe a time you took on more than you could realistically deliver. How did you handle it with the people relying on you?
What raters look for
- Self-awareness
- Recognizes own biases, limits and emotions, and seeks and uses feedback.
- Empathy
- Recognizes what others feel and need, and lets that shape the response without losing judgment.
