The missing family photo
You are an adult family member who removed a shared photo at your sister’s request.
You are visiting your mother Jericho and adult brother Javed. You removed a family photo from public view after your sister asked you to, without explaining her private reasons. She wants no public explanation. Relatives are asking about the missing photo in the family chat, and your mother worries they will assume there is a disagreement.
The scene
Jericho: The family chat asks where the photo went. They suspect fighting.
Javed: Our sister asked for privacy. She never agreed to an explanation.
Jericho: Silence looks worse. Could you say something small to stop worried guessing?
Javed: You removed it for her. What do you want to tell everyone?
The two questions
- 1What would you communicate to the family chat, if anything, and what would you say to your mother and sister?
- 2Tell us about a time you had to balance one person's privacy against another person's wish for openness. What did you do, and what did you learn?
What raters look for
- Self-awareness
- Recognizes own biases, limits and emotions, and seeks and uses feedback.
- Ethics
- Weighs competing duties honestly, protects people from harm, and stays accountable to rules and values.
