Scene to read · Self-awareness, Equity
The group chat you forgot
You are the host of a monthly neighbor dinner that has become a close circle of friends.
In the building's shared kitchen-lounge, Leopold, 59, your longtime friend, helps put away dinner dishes. Leonti, 46, a newer resident who stopped by afterward, mentions never receiving an invitation. You started the dinners to help neighbors meet, but now arrange them through a private group chat.
The scene
Leopold: I love these small dinners. There's room for everyone to really talk.
Leonti: I'm not complaining, but I hadn't heard until I walked past tonight.
Leopold: We could invite everyone, but it'd feel more like a building event.
Leonti: The invitations use a chat I'm missing. How can new neighbors join?
The two questions
- 1What would you do about future dinners, and what would you say to Leopold and Leonti?
- 2How do you decide when a close circle should stay small and when it should open up?
What raters look for
- Self-awareness
- Recognizes own biases, limits and emotions, and seeks and uses feedback.
- Equity
- Notices unequal access or treatment and acts fairly, especially for people with less power.
