Scene to read · Self-awareness, Collaboration

Without you in the room

You rent an apartment with two others, Shu and Gregor.

You are the one who usually settles household questions: which internet plan, when to call the landlord, who pays what. Tonight the landlord's renewal offer is on the dining table, and the other two have already talked it over without you. They want the two-year term; you had meant to argue for one.

The scene

Shu: We talked last night. Two years locks the rent. We both want that.

Gregor: We didn't hide it. It's just, with you there, we never get to finish.

Shu: You're good at this stuff. But you decide while we're still thinking.

Gregor: It needs all three of us. So, are you in, or do we start over?

The two questions

  1. 1How would you respond to Shu and Gregor?
  2. 2How would you know if your way of taking the lead was shutting other people out?
