Scene to read · Self-awareness, Ethics
Whose sentences are these?
You are a volunteer writer in a community newsletter group, asked by the facilitator to help propose a disclosure rule.
In the community newsletter office, printed drafts cover the table. Samson, 58, is the editor and group facilitator; Sandro, 28, is a fellow writer. The group permits grammar tools but has never discussed tools that restructure sentences. You used restructuring suggestions on one paragraph and told Samson, who now wants your help proposing a rule.
The scene
Samson: I want to know whether I'm reviewing your writing or tool suggestions.
Sandro: But trying tools privately helps me figure out what sounds like me.
Samson: That's fair, but detailed feedback takes time, and I need some context.
Sandro: You tried restructuring suggestions yourself. What do you think we should disclose?
The two questions
- 1What disclosure rule would you recommend to Samson and Sandro, and why?
- 2Tell us about a time you used help or a shortcut on your work. How did it shape your view of what others should be expected to share?
What raters look for
- Self-awareness
- Recognizes own biases, limits and emotions, and seeks and uses feedback.
- Ethics
- Weighs competing duties honestly, protects people from harm, and stays accountable to rules and values.
