Scene to read · Self-awareness, Collaboration
Whose turn is it?
You are visiting your sister, Leila.
Leila has hosted every family holiday dinner for six years, including the year she also put you up for a month. You manage a restaurant and work every holiday until evening. In her front hall, Leila has just said she is not hosting this year, and you notice you feel oddly offended. Her husband, Kekoa, is beside her.
The scene
Leila: I'm just tired. This year I'd like to be a guest.
Kekoa: And it's not only the cooking. It's the cleanup and a week of houseguests.
Leila: I know you work the holiday. I don't have the answer.
Kekoa: Six years, though. Whose turn do you think it is?
The two questions
- 1What would you say to Leila and Kekoa?
- 2What can a strong first reaction to someone's request tell you about yourself?
What raters look for
- Self-awareness
- Recognizes own biases, limits and emotions, and seeks and uses feedback.
- Collaboration
