Scene to read · Collaboration, Empathy
Tiebreaker
You are on a weekend cabin trip with your close friends Latoya and Neha.
Latoya spent weeks planning a full schedule of hikes. Neha has just finished an exhausting month at work and wants to do nothing at all. The three of you came in one car, and the trailheads are a half-hour drive away. On Saturday morning in the cabin kitchen, both turn to you.
The scene
Latoya: Trailhead by nine. I planned three hikes, and we booked this place for them.
Neha: I planned a porch and a book. I haven't rested in a month.
Latoya: So I hike alone? It's a group trip.
Neha: And I'm part of the group. Okay, tiebreaker. What do you want?
The two questions
- 1What would you say to Latoya and Neha?
- 2Describe a time a group you were part of wanted different things from the same shared time. How did you help it decide?
What raters look for
- Collaboration
- Works toward a shared goal, shares credit and load, and repairs friction inside a team.
- Empathy
- Recognizes what others feel and need, and lets that shape the response without losing judgment.
