Scene to read · Collaboration, Communication
Eight hundred pages on lighthouses
You are a member of a six-person book club and the host's oldest friend.
Xiu hosts and cooks for the book club every month, and has also chosen the last six books. Tonight, in her living room, another member, Dina, has pulled you aside before the others sit down. Xiu walks over with a book under her arm.
The scene
Dina: Six books in a row, all Xiu's. Say something before the next pick.
Xiu: There you two are! I found next month's book. Eight hundred pages on lighthouses.
Dina: Wow. Eight hundred. Any thoughts on that?
Xiu: Oh, do you have thoughts? Tell everyone, I'm about to announce it.
The two questions
- 1What would you say, and when would you say it?
- 2Describe a time you had to raise a problem with a friend on behalf of a group. How did you go about it?
What raters look for
- Collaboration
- Works toward a shared goal, shares credit and load, and repairs friction inside a team.
- Communication
