Personal question · Collaboration, Self-awareness
When the group chose otherwise
Groups of friends and classmates often have to settle on a single plan, even when members see things differently. Sometimes the plan that wins is not the one you pushed for, and how you respond in that moment can shape both the outcome and the relationships involved.
The two questions
- 1Describe a time a group of friends or classmates you were part of chose a different plan from the one you argued for. How did you respond in the moment, what do you now understand about why they decided as they did, and what would you handle differently next time?
- 2Tell us about a time you were on the other side, part of a group whose decision left one person unhappy. How did you treat that person, and what did that experience teach you about how you act in group decisions?
What raters look for
- Collaboration
- Works toward a shared goal, shares credit and load, and repairs friction inside a team.
- Self-awareness
- Recognizes own biases, limits and emotions, and seeks and uses feedback.
