Scene to read · Communication, Empathy
Who promised the ride?
You are a close friend of both Kaori and Lalit, and you were at the same party where they say the plan was made.
You're in a diner booth with Kaori and Lalit at a crowded weekend brunch. Kaori missed the driving road test she waited three months to book, because Lalit never came to drive her. Lalit says the ride was never confirmed. You were across the room at Mia's birthday party and caught only part of their talk.
The scene
Kaori: I waited forty minutes and lost my slot. You promised to drive.
Lalit: I said I'd probably be free. You never told me the time.
Kaori: I told you at Mia's party. You nodded, standing right there.
Lalit: I don't remember that. You were nearby, so just say who's wrong.
The two questions
- 1What would you say to Kaori and Lalit right now, and why?
- 2Describe a time you were asked to take sides between two people you cared about. How did you handle it?
What raters look for
- Communication
- Listens first, speaks clearly and respectfully, and adapts the message to the listener.
- Empathy
- Recognizes what others feel and need, and lets that shape the response without losing judgment.
