The New Year's hike
You are a close friend of Vita and Vitus, and they have asked you to sit down with them together.
At a quiet corner table in a neighborhood tea shop, Vita, 53, and Vitus, 66, are longtime friends. Every New Year's Day they hike together, and Vitus plans his year around it. Vita has told you privately that the hike has become a chore. Now they turn to you.
The scene
Vita: Vitus, I've been thinking about New Year's Day and our hike.
Vitus: The hike is something I never miss. Why bring it up?
Vita: I'd rather speak now than grumble up that trail yet again.
Vitus: Changing this feels like drifting. Tell us what you would do.
The two questions
- 1What would you say to Vita and Vitus, and why?
- 2Tell us about a time you had to be honest with a friend about something that was changing between you. What happened?
