Scene to read · Communication, Problem solving
Too much information, kindly
You are a close friend of Zephyr and Zita, helping Zita plan a difficult conversation.
After a long walk, Zephyr, 37, and Zita, 50, sit on a quiet park bench with you. Your mutual friend Rashid has just left after sharing another detailed dating story. Zita has laughed along for months despite feeling uncomfortable; Rashid is affectionate and seems unaware. Zita wants to speak to him today, while Zephyr favors waiting until their next private walk.
The scene
Zita: I keep laughing, but it's too much. I'd rather tell him today.
Zephyr: Maybe wait until your next walk. He won't feel put on trial.
Zita: But if I wait, he'll think I'm fine hearing all those details.
Zephyr: I just worry calling right now will make him replay everything.
The two questions
- 1How would you help Zita decide when and how to speak to Rashid, and why?
- 2Tell us about a time you had to say something hard to a friend. How did you choose your words, and what happened?
