Splitting the weekend rental

You are driving two friends to a weekend trip and are the one they both trust to sort out the plan.

You are driving Aarti and Abel, both longtime friends, to a lake weekend. Abel wants to book a nicer rental and split it evenly. Aarti has always preferred cheaper places and has not said why. The booking closes tonight, and both of them are waiting for you to suggest a way forward.

The scene

Abel: The lakeside house is gorgeous. An even split's simplest; I'll book tonight.

Aarti: It's lovely, Abel. I thought the cabin was cozier, more my speed.

Abel: The cabin has bunk beds, no kitchen. Let's divide the house evenly.

Aarti: Maybe. I don't want to delay the trip. What do you think?

The two questions

  1. 1What would you say to Aarti and Abel, and why?
  2. 2Tell us about a time you had to find a fair way for a group to share a cost. What did you do?
