Scene to read · Ethics, Professionalism
Every spool
You are treasurer of your campus makers' club.
Kekoa, a fellow officer who runs most of the club's workshops, has just admitted that he used the club's 3D printer and donated filament after hours to make phone stands he sells online. Beside the printer in the workshop, another officer, Chidi, has heard it too.
The scene
Kekoa: It was dumb. I'll repay every spool tonight. Can it end there?
Chidi: That filament was donated to the members. They deserve to hear it from us.
Kekoa: And then nobody trusts me to teach again. Over forty dollars of plastic.
Chidi: Or they find out later and trust none of us. Treasurer, it's your books.
The two questions
- 1What would you do as treasurer, and what would you say to Kekoa and Chidi?
- 2When someone admits a mistake and offers to put it right, who else needs to be told?
What raters look for
- Ethics
- Weighs competing duties honestly, protects people from harm, and stays accountable to rules and values.
- Professionalism
- Is reliable, respects boundaries and confidentiality, and holds a consistent standard under pressure.
