We've always done it this way

You have volunteered on the set-building crew of a community theatre for three years.

At a crew meeting in the workshop, Farah, who joined last month, suggests building sets in modular pieces that could be reused across shows. Glen, who has led the crew for fifteen years, cuts her off.

What's said in the scene

Farah: What if we build sets in modular pieces we can reuse?

Glen: We've built sets the same way since before you were born. It works.

Farah: I wasn't saying it doesn't work. I just thought it could save money...

Glen: (turning to you) You've been here a while. Tell her how we do things.

The two questions

  1. 1What would you say in the meeting, and would you do anything afterwards?
  2. 2How should a team balance long experience with new ideas?

What raters look for

Collaboration
Works toward a shared goal, shares credit and load, and repairs friction inside a team.
