Written scenario · Ethics, Professionalism
What a friend told you
You volunteer in your gurdwara's community kitchen.
While helping prepare the evening langar meal, you recognize a new volunteer, Khanh, as the man a close friend told you, in confidence, had repeatedly harassed her at their old workplace until he was let go. You have never heard his side, your friend asked you not to repeat it, and all week he has been courteous and hardworking. Now the kitchen coordinator asks you to put him on the late evening cleanup shift, which is staffed by the newest volunteers with nobody senior present.
The two questions
- 1What would you do, and why?
- 2When, if ever, is it fair to act on something you have heard about a person from only one side?
What raters look for
- Ethics
- Weighs competing duties honestly, protects people from harm, and stays accountable to rules and values.
- Professionalism
- Is reliable, respects boundaries and confidentiality, and holds a consistent standard under pressure.
