A pass for the cousin
You volunteer at a city museum, and your cousin Ondine has asked you to vouch for a free pass.
It's a free-for-residents Thursday at the museum entrance desk. Olympia, the attendant, can grant a discretionary community-contributor pass. Ondine, your cousin, moved outside the district but still volunteers here. Others who moved away paid full price today.
The scene
Ondine: You've seen my shifts here. Tell Olympia I'm basically still a local.
Olympia: I can approve contributors, but I need honesty about residency. Others paid today.
Ondine: My work is real, and I only moved a few blocks past the line.
Olympia: Then I'll hear it from you. What can you vouch for?
The two questions
- 1What would you say to Olympia and to Ondine, and why?
- 2Tell us about a time you had to decide how far to support someone close to you when it meant bending a rule or the full truth.
What raters look for
- Ethics
- Weighs competing duties honestly, protects people from harm, and stays accountable to rules and values.
- Self-awareness
- Recognizes own biases, limits and emotions, and seeks and uses feedback.
