Scene to read · Ethics, Empathy

Nobody saw

You are getting a ride home from work in your coworker Kira's car.

Backing out of a tight space in a parking garage, your friend and coworker Kira has scraped an empty parked car and left a clear dent. Nobody else is around. She drives for a delivery company. Theo, another coworker, is in the back seat.

The scene

Kira: No, no, no. I'm not insured right now. One report and I lose my license and the job.

Theo: She can't just drive off. That's somebody's door.

Kira: I'll come back and pay them when I'm covered. I swear. Just not today.

Theo: You know she won't come back. Tell her.

The two questions

  1. 1What would you say to Kira, and what would you do if she started to drive away?
  2. 2Tell us about a time doing the right thing came at a real cost to you or to someone you care about.
