Two promises about one tape
You are a volunteer cataloguer at a community radio hobbyists' club, asked to recommend how it should handle an interview withdrawal request.
In the club's tape storage room, archivist Elowen, 62, meets club member Emiliano, 32, who wants his old interview removed because it names people still active in the club. His interviewer emailed that he could withdraw later, but the signed form says nothing about withdrawal. The club subsequently promised donors and the public a permanent, complete archive; Elowen worries other contributors received similar assurances.
The scene
Emiliano: I kept that email because being able to withdraw mattered to me.
Elowen: That matters, but donors funded preservation after we promised a complete archive.
Emiliano: I shouldn't lose that choice because the club later promised something different.
Elowen: Can we check those assurances before recommending what happens to this tape?
The two questions
- 1How would you investigate the conflicting assurances, and what would you recommend the club do about Emiliano's request and its public promise?
- 2Tell us about a time you discovered that people had received conflicting expectations about the same commitment. How did you respond?

- Ethics
- Weighs competing duties honestly, protects people from harm, and stays accountable to rules and values.
