Allowed isn't decent

You are the volunteer on duty for a row of booths at your town's open-air art fair.

Dragan, an exhibiting artist, has hung satirical prints showing a well-known local pastor as a carnival barker. The fair's rules ban only obscene images. Morgan, a passerby, has stopped at the booth and waved you over.

The scene

Morgan: That man buried my wife and sat with me for weeks. Take them down.

Dragan: He's a public figure who lobbies city hall. Your rules allow satire.

Morgan: Allowed isn't the same as decent. At least move them inside the booth.

Dragan: Hidden is the same as banned. You're the fair. Do they stay?

The two questions

  1. 1What would you decide, and what would you say to Morgan and Dragan?
  2. 2When something is permitted but offends people deeply, who should decide whether it stays?
